We’re asked to determine whether or not vanadium is a main-group element.

Recall that the main group elements belong to the s- and p-blocks in the periodic table. 

Main group elements form charges that are the same as their group number and are usually found in Groups ending in A in the periodic table:

  • Main Group metals  Groups 1A, 2A (some in 3A such as Al)
  • Main Group nonmetals  Groups 3A to 8A
