Nucleic acids are polymers of nucleotides: a building block formed from  a nitrogenous base, a pentose, and an inorganic phosphate group. The nitrogenous base can be one of five: adenine (A), cytosine (C), thymine (T), guanine (G), or uracil (U), while the pentose can either be ribose or deoxyribose. RNAs are polynucleotides with ribose as its pentose and A, U, C, and G as its bases, while DNAs have deoxyribose as its pentose and A, T C, and G as its bases.
