Problem

Discuss how molecules move across the cell membrane by active transport and passive transport.

Solution

Molecules can move across the cell membrane using the following:

  • Active transport: This type of transport moves from lower concentration to higher concentration and requires energy to move the molecules across the gradient. Active transport has two subtype, the primary and secondary active transport. Primary active transport directly uses chemical energy (ATP) to move the molecules while secondary active transport uses an electrochemical gradient as a source of energy to transport the molecules.
